संघर्ष की शुरुआत (2013)

I am a resident of Udaypur village in Banda district, in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. In 2013, I launched a campaign against illegal sand mining in the Ken, Baghain, and Betwa rivers.

At that time, illegal mining was severely damaging the rivers, groundwater, farmers' land, and aquatic life. Local people were too afraid of the mining mafia to raise their voice.

मैं उत्तर प्रदेश के बुंदेलखंड क्षेत्र के बाँदा जिले के ग्राम उदयपुर का निवासी हूँ। वर्ष 2013 में मैंने केन, बघैन और बेतवा नदियों में हो रहे अवैध बालू खनन के खिलाफ अभियान शुरू किया।

उस समय अवैध खनन से नदियों, भूजल, किसानों की जमीन और जलीय जीवों को गंभीर नुकसान हो रहा था। स्थानीय लोग माफियाओं के डर से आवाज़ नहीं उठा पाते थे।

Personal Hardships

व्यक्तिगत कठिनाइयाँ

During this campaign, I faced many hardships:

• Held hostage for three days after being kidnapped.
• Received death threats.
• Survived several life-threatening attacks.
• Framed in false police cases.
• Sent to jail and tortured while in custody.
• Endured pressure from both family and police.

Despite all this, I never gave up the fight.

इस अभियान के दौरान मुझे अनेक कठिनाइयों का सामना करना पड़ा:

• तीन दिन तक अपहरण कर बंधक बनाया गया।
• जान से मारने की धमकियाँ मिलीं।
• कई बार जानलेवा हमले हुए।
• पुलिस द्वारा झूठे मुकदमों में फँसाया गया।
• जेल भेजा गया और जेल में भी प्रताड़ित किया गया।
• परिवार और पुलिस दोनों का दबाव सहना पड़ा।

इसके बावजूद मैंने संघर्ष नहीं छोड़ा।

कानूनी लड़ाई

On 30 September 2013, I filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The NGT accepted the case and sought responses from the central and state governments.

Several hearings led to orders halting illegal mining and directing investigations. A court-appointed commissioner's inquiry later confirmed nearly 1.3 million cubic metres of illegal mining.

The NGT ordered action against several officials and mining mafias, and in 2018 finally issued strict directives against illegal mining.

30 सितम्बर 2013 को मैंने National Green Tribunal (NGT) में जनहित याचिका (PIL) दायर की। NGT ने मामले को स्वीकार कर केंद्र एवं राज्य सरकार से जवाब तलब किया।

कई सुनवाईयों में अवैध खनन पर रोक लगाने और जाँच के आदेश दिए गए। बाद में न्यायालय द्वारा नियुक्त आयुक्त की जाँच में लगभग 13 लाख घन मीटर अवैध खनन की पुष्टि हुई।

NGT ने कई अधिकारियों और खनन माफियाओं के विरुद्ध कार्रवाई के आदेश दिए। अंततः 2018 में NGT ने अवैध खनन के विरुद्ध कड़े निर्देश जारी किए।

• Became the voice of thousands of farmers and villagers.
• Fought for the protection of rivers, groundwater, turtles, crocodiles, fish, and other aquatic biodiversity.
• Received prominent national media coverage.
• Received recognition for environmental conservation.

• अवैध खनन के खिलाफ देश के सबसे बड़े पर्यावरणीय मामलों में से एक को सफलतापूर्वक न्यायालय तक पहुँचाया।
• हजारों किसानों और ग्रामीणों की आवाज़ बने।
• नदियों, भूजल, कछुओं, मगरमच्छों, मछलियों तथा अन्य जलीय जैव विविधता के संरक्षण के लिए संघर्ष किया।
• राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर समाचार पत्रों में मेरे कार्य को प्रमुखता मिली।
• पर्यावरण संरक्षण के लिए सम्मान भी प्राप्त हुआ।

वर्तमान कार्य

Today, I continue to:

• Gather information on illegal mining through RTI.
• Send complaints to the administration.
• File petitions in court when necessary.
• Work with local communities toward river and biodiversity conservation.

आज भी मैं:

• RTI के माध्यम से अवैध खनन की जानकारी एकत्र करता हूँ।
• प्रशासन को शिकायतें भेजता हूँ।
• आवश्यकता पड़ने पर न्यायालय में याचिका दायर करता हूँ।
• स्थानीय समुदाय के साथ मिलकर नदी और जैव विविधता संरक्षण के लिए कार्य कर रहा हूँ।
